Located on the edge of Bristol’s green belt, owner Stephen Lansdown decided to re-develop the existing facility.

This project was part of the re-development of Ashton Gate Stadium home to Bristol City FC and Bristol Bears. This project was one close to MCS’ hearts with most of the team being firm Bears fans and having a box there ourselves to watch the games, and close links with Bristol Sport, sponsoring them one way or another over the years.

We worked for MCHL who really worked with us and were as keen as we were to get this project finished on time. Construction took place whilst the stadium was in use, specialist testing had to done with Danpalon Polycarb Everlite on site to ensure safety measures were achieved for the spectators.

The Dolman stand was existing and MCS built the new section with limited information, on site surveys and testing had to be carried out to develop the design to ensure that we could accommodate the differential movement of the new and existing structures.

Our in-house rope access team were used along with a number of large scale access machinery due to the logistical issues created by the design of the stadium and the fact we couldn’t access the pitch itself. The construction won the following awards with the chairman quoting ‘these three awards reflect the hard work by our architects and design team’

  • ’Best Commercial Building’ at the Bristol Building Excellence Awards run by Bristol Building Control

  • ‘Best Public Service Building’ at the Bristol Building Excellence Awards run by Bristol Building Control

  • ‘Best Public Service Building’ at the West of England LABC Building Excellence Awards run by LABC.
