The concept design for One, Portwall SQ used extremely large rainscreen panels that where outside of the parameters achievable by our manufacturing partners, as a result a bespoke panel system was developed that would provide the desired aesthetic using panel sizes that could be manufactured installed safely on site.

MCS had the pleasure or working on One Portwall Square throughout 2021 & 2022 alongside Skanska Construction, AHMM Architects and AAG glazing. As you will see from the gallery of images, the project is a well-designed and striking feature that stands out amongst the other buildings on Portwall lane in Bristol City Centre. Offering 33,767 sq. ft. of new office space only a short walk from Bristol Temple Meads Train Station the client NORD Developments have added a key asset to the architecture of Bristol.

As the specialist external envelope contractor, MCS worked closely with Skanska and the project Architect through all stages of the project delivery. Our key focus on progressing the concept design in to a workable solution; one that was achievable within manufacturing restrictions, practical on-site, but also maintained the original vision for the project, On site mock ups were carried out to ensure a robust design where each detail had been considered in and around the complicated interfaces.

 

Access to this site was restricted due to its City Centre location, with limited on-site storage, materials needed to be stored locally and transported to site as needed. For this reason, it was necessary to take great care in observing material levels. The success of Portwall SQ wouldn’t have been possible if not for our dedicated supply chain and the support they offered throughout the project.
